Graduated in 1972 at Rio de Janeiro Federal University School of Law (UFRJ), and from the very beginning of his career specialized in insurance and reinsurance area, having worked in top positions in legal departments of worldwide known insurers and also as advisor of the heads of public entities in the sector, such as the Brazilian Insurance Commissioner (Superintendent Office of Private Insurance) - SUSEP and the IRB – Brasil RE S/A.

From March 1983 to April 1987 he lived in Germany, where he conducted research on insurance law at the University of Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute.

Professor at the National Private Insurance School (FUNENSEG) and Cândido Mendes University. He is member of the International Insurance Law Association (AIDA), and is a former President of this Entity. He received the Commendam of the Judiciary Order from Rio de Janeiro State Court of Appeal. He is fluent in German, English and Spanish.
