Lodewyk Meyer is a Director of Bowman Gilfillan’s Corporate Department. He is qualified as an attorney in South Africa. Lodewyk specialises in Banking and Finance, and Agribusiness Law, including structured trade finance, acquisition finance, senior debt lending, syndicated lending and cross border financing. He is based in Bowman Gilfillan’s Sandton office in Johannesburg.
Lodewyk’s experience includes advising on Structured Agricultural Finance transactions in multiple jurisdictions in Africa, the Middle East and Asia and managing legal and regulatory risk for domestic and multinational Financial Services Providers. Lodewyk practised at a law firm in South Africa prior to working for domestic and international banks for the past ten years.
He held various positions advising on specialised finance transactions, Corporate and Wholesale Banking and Legal and Regulatory risk management. He most recently held the position as Head, Legal and Compliance, Standard Chartered Bank, Africa based in the United Arab Emirates. During that time he gained extensive experience in advising on legal and regulatory risk management, including compliance and subsidiary governance, across multiple product offerings and jurisdictions.
Lodewyk recently acted for Standard Chartered Bank and advised them on the structuring and execution of a Structured Agricultural Finance facility in relation to the cultivation, harvesting and hedging of summer crops.
Lodewyk is also a member of the Agribusiness Practice Group of Lex Mundi, the worlds leading association of Independent Law Firms.
