Johan focuses in particular on local and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, securities and exchanges law, energy and resources law, as well as various aspects of banking, finance and tax law.

Johan is the founder member and director of Roodt Inc Attorneys. He is a past chairman of the coal committee of the Section on Energy and Resources Law of the International Bar Association. He has lectured and addressed national and international conferences and seminars on subjects such as housing development, native land rights, mineral and mining law and policy, banking law and corporate law.

Johan obtained a BCom degree from the University of Pretoria and a BProc degree from the University of South Africa. He was admitted as an attorney in 1980.
