Europe’s largest public companies are using more law firms than ever
before. But will the recession change the balance of power in the
European legal market? RAVINDER CASLEY GERA reviews the results.

This is Client Report’s fifth survey of the top 100 European public companies. After four years of steady expansion in the number of law firms listed by clients, this year sees a growth spurt: a massive 270 different law firms were cited by the major European public companies who took part, up from last year’s 211. And for the second year running, the average number of mentions each firm received declined, from 2.6 to 2.25. Europe’s legal market has certainly become more competitive.
